    Animondays @ the M.P.L. - Pom Poko

The library's anime club will hold a free screening of Pom Poko.

Come join our Anime Monday event on September 8 at 5:30 p.m. in Meeting Room A. For more information, contact (304) 291-7425 ext.213 and ask for Danuel.

Plot Summary: As urban sprawl from Tokyo threatens to destroy the woodlands surrounding the city, a group of tanuki (a native animal of Asia that is part of the canine family and resembles a raccoon) band together to fight the greedy developers. Under the guidance of tanuki matriarch, Oroku Baba, the creatures hinder and frustrate the developers with their tricks and shape-shifting skills but can their magic really create a roadblock to progress? An animated cautionary tale for the entire family but opting for a more realistic ending instead of the expected "happy-ever-after" fadeout, Pom Poko (1994) is a refreshingly different alternative to the American-made animation features from Walt Disney Studios.

    18 and older only!

    Read to Rover

It's all about reading aloud to a four-legged friend — a dog! Not just any dog, but a specially-trained therapy dog. The goal is to inspire school-age children to discover the joy of reading while developing literacy skills and confidence in a positive and fun environment.

Reading sessions are approximately 15 minutes. Children must be in at least Kindergarten to participate. Only readers, dogs, and owners will be allowed in the room. Bring a book or choose one of our library books.

Space is limited so you must be registered to participate!

This program occurs the last Thursday of each month.

Register at the front desk of the library or call (304) 291-7425.

Therapy dogs and owners have completed therapy dog training and are members of Therapy Dogs, Inc.
