The Drake Equation: Little Green Men, Exoplanets and Scientific Progress
What do we need to know in order to discover life in space?. How can we estimate the number of technological civilizations that may exist among the stars?
Dr. Frank Drake conceived an approach to bound the terms involved in estimating the number of technological civilizations that may exist in our galaxy while he was a radio astronomer at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank West Virginia. The Drake Equation was first presented by Dr. Drake in 1961 and identifies specific factors thought to play a role in the development of such civilizations.
Guest lecturer Scott Thompson will speak on the equation at the Morgantown Public Library Monday, December 16th in meeting room B. Anyone interested should call ahead to insure seating. (304) 291-7425 extensions 212 or 213.
